After a few crazy days, we decided to have a bit of a break today, have a long lay in and take it all a bit slower.
After a very late breakfast of bread and jam, and strong Peruvian coffee we set to some chilled out travel schooling.
In all honesty we haven’t quite got into our groove with the schooling yet and are sort of whinging it as we go along! I think being on a 3 week road trip in America made it tricky to get into a routine as we had things we wanted to see and such limited time before moving on.
But the girls have been journaling every day or so in their workbooks and getting lots of sketching in.
Because we can’t really pick up many souvenirs along the way (Daisy would have a menagerie of fluffy animals by now!) we decided to do stickers with the name of the place we’ve visited on for the outside of their workbooks. They’re filling up space fast and already looking pretty good!
Alongside the journaling we have an English and maths book for each year group and are doing a couple of pages each week when we can. So far Den has taken year 5 maths and I’ve done year 2! English so far I’m on year 5 (lord help Molly!) and Den on year 2.
I’m usually in charge of journaling and i’ve found so far that generally it’s better to do this separately with One, then the other. Or we end up with some competitive writing and temper tantrums!
However today I did work with both girls at the same time as we decided to sketch Peruvian fruit. We picked up a selection of odd looking fruits at the grocery store and set to work sketching them, finding out about them on the laptop, smelling and then eating them. The girls wrote down their findings and it turns out we all like melon pears, very scrummy! but no thanks to tuna cactus which reminded us all of schnozcumbers! Good fun!
In the afternoon we went back to the water fountains (it’s a Β£1 entry!) this time prepared with crocs, towels and spare clothes! Daisy convinced us to take the mini train round the park, and we spent the rest of the afternoon getting soaked before returning home for a chilled out evening!
A good relaxing day!
Well I think their workbooks are fantastic!! πππ just read Molly’s bit on Lake Tahoe and the Yosemite!! Very good and yesterday’s drawings look wonderful!! A real nature lesson and more!! Also love the map! Geography!!! π I think the trip back to the fountains was well deserved after all that work ππππππ

Sounds like a perfect day of relaxing and a little sketching – I love their workbooks – and a trip back to the waterfall and then a ride in the train was so worth it…Lots of love xxxx
