Deciding how long to stay in each place, has been one of the tricky parts to our travels. How long do you give a place, will you love it, is there lots to do or will you want to move on after a day or two!
Sometimes we wish we had more time to explore and get to know a place, so we have been pleased that we have stopped for a week to enjoy Kuala Lumpur, especially with our apartment views!
It has been good to find our feet here and start our tour of Asia gently in this vibrant multicultural city. After two months in very English countries it was a jolt to be back in a ‘foreign’ land, although almost everyone here speaks English, getting use to new Malaysian foods, finding out where to shop along with the new sights and smells of everything has been good.
This week we’ve done less travel schooling with our books and been out and about! We spent pretty much and entire day in the Petrosain Discovery centre, which is an amazing science museum on the top floor of the Suria Mall near the KLCC. With everything from space travel to science experiments , electronics to earth quakes! They even had a reconstruction of an oil rig where Molly enjoyed sliding down the floors in a special rope slide.
We went from exhibit to exhibit, with so many interactive stations, buttons to press, experiments to try out, we even tried our hands at a bit of soldering! A great place to visit!
We have also been to see the beautiful Islamic Arts Museum, which we loved! The girls had a little booklet to explore the museum with, that explained the different Islamic symbols and features found on the buildings and artworks. It was all so delicate and beautiful, and I loved the domed ceilings and the twinkling jewels!
We’ve also been so lucky to catch up again with our friends the Reddington’s. Another traveling family with whom our paths have crossed three times now, in Peru, Argentina and now KL. The excitement for the children (and the adults!) as we see familiar faces in a new city is just lovely.
We’ve also managed to meet up with some past friends from home who have been living in KL for a few years now! The children had a blast at their home, swimming, nattering and playing with the dressing up box! Whilst us adults chatted and chatted and drank..and chatted! Such a fantastic afternoon/evening, I don’t think anyone wanted to go home! In fact Daisy had even tucked herself up on the sofa for the night! 💤
So it’s been a good week, today we pack our bags again as we head to Borneo tomorrow! We’re flying with AirAsia and the baggage allowance is a little less than we’re use to, so we may be leaving a little more than a bit of our hearts in Kuala Lumpur!!!!
