So we have finally arrived in Lima, Peru! Yesterday was a long old day of travel, a 7 hour flight from Los Angeles to Bogota, then a little wait in the Colombian airport for our connecting 3 hour flight on to Lima. We finally made it to our new Airbnb in the Barranco area at 3am local time, so we pretty much crawled into our beds and dropped off to the land of nod!
On waking this morning I think we were a mix of emotions! On one hand feeling excited about visiting a new country but also an oddness of being very much outside of our comfort zone! Here we have a few cultural and language barriers to get past but hey I guess that’s what makes travelling exciting!
So today we have thrown ourselves at it, and now we are all feeling soooo much better. It’s funny how that happens. We’ve walked around the local area, found a good local shop for food, bottled water, wine!..and stocked up!
Despite it being a little overcast we’ve been down to the beach and built big sandcastles, and found an amazing shell whilst beachcombing. (Drawing project for tomorrow!) Den and I reflected on the beach how the girls are turning a few heads, two blondies walking down the street results in quite a lot of stares! We feel a bit like celebrity body guards!
We’ve even taken a trip to the electricity museum (it was on route, and any opportunity to do schooling on the roadies is always grabbed! 😉)
But yes it’s funny how just getting your bearings and filling your fridge can make you feel a lot more at home. We have even booked a walking history tour of Lima for tomorrow morning, so feeling much more back in control!
Barranco seems like a nice area, again we seem to have stumbled on an area covered in street art, some is really very impressive! The houses are all painted contrasting colours as you go down the street and there’s lots of smiles alongside the stares! There are quite a few people making bracelets and nick nacks for sale on the streets and they do all holler at us to try and buy, so I wonder how long I will be able to hold Daisy off wanting a llama key ring!!!
So all in all a good first day and feeling much more upbeat!
